Overview

Our emotions have an impact on so many things, from our mood and our decision-making process, to how we perceive others and how we communicate with others! Emotional intelligence is the awareness that our perceptions of events and interactions with others are affected by emotions. This training course teaches employees how to improve emotional intelligence by developing an awareness of emotions, managing, and controlling them, and by empathizing with others.

Viewers are taught how to manage emotions by following three steps: let yourself feel the emotion; let the emotional wave pass; and challenge the emotion. In other words, acknowledge the emotion, but instead of reacting, do something to diffuse the emotion, and then think rationally about the situation. By practicing these steps, viewers learn how to temper their emotions with rational thought.

This course also demonstrates how to build empathy with others by asking questions, listening respectfully to the answers, and showing support. The purpose of building empathy is to understand another’s point of view.
