Cut Protection & Utility Knife Safety

Mastery has recently added two more new titles to its library, “Cut Protection” and “Utility Knife Safety.” Both courses, with video produced by CLMI Safety Training, feature HD video and are available for learners to take in English or Spanish.

Cut Protection” covers the specifics workers need to know when it comes to using cut protection gloves and clothing. The course demonstrates how to select the proper PPE and explains cut resistance levels. The video shows how to ensure a good fit when it comes to cut resistant gloves, and how to care and use such equipment properly. This course prepares employees to make safe choices when it comes to cut prevention.

“Utility Knife Safety” demonstrates safe work practices for using utility knives. These tools are common, and almost everyone picks one up once in a while. Remember, just because utility knives are common tools does not make them any less dangerous. This video shows everyone, from the casual user to a worker using a knife every day, how to safely use the tool to get the job done, while preventing accidents and injuries.

Accident Investigation & OSHA

OSHA recently published a report on the first year of the Severe Injury Reporting Program. OSHA’s newest requirement on injury reporting went into effect Jan. 1, 2015 – requiring employers to report work-related amputations, in-patient hospitalizations, and/or loss of eye injuries within 24 hours to OSHA. These efforts support employers taking action to prevent future injuries, after an accident occurs.

One important component in preventing injuries is conducting thorough accident investigations. Employers should not wait for OSHA to conduct an investigation, instead every accident or near miss should initiate an employer to investigate the incident internally. One of Mastery’s newest courses, "Accident Investigation," details the process for conducting a proper investigation to help improve safety at the workplace.
